It is a sad day in the world of Rock. Legendary front man, vocalist, and yes, the originator of the "metal horns rock symbol" Ronnie James Dio passed away yesterday at 67 years old after losing his battle with stomach cancer. Although physically small in stature, the legacy that Dio leaves behind is indisputably enormous. After fronting outrageously successful bands like Rainbow, and who thought it could be done, replacing Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne, he branched out on his own and enjoyed continued success as the solo artist Dio. He will undoubtedly be remembered for his amazing vocal talent and unmistakable sound he lent to every syllable that he sang. RIP Ronnie James Dio, your legend will live on forever at Retro Active. ROCK ON!!!

First of all, just want to say thanks to Amy Red for throwing a heck of a birthday party for me this past weekend. It was a blast and definitely made turning thirty......something waaaay easier and a lot of fun!! =D And thanks to all my friends who came, including my fellow-birthday-ers!!
Spring is definitely here! And so is college spring breaks and Can-Am days. The weather is finally starting to shape up and people are coming out of hibernation! And we have great news!! Ok, so this is what happens when I don't have my day planner with me...I forget it's my week to blog and it's 2 days late. Well, lots going on this week!!! I enjoyed some quality time with a friend from my school days visiting from New Hampshire. She was glad to be here when the power went out last week, but eventually had to go home to it. Power has finally been restored and I'm sure she's showered by now...at least I hope so!! So, Rocklahoma announces their line up....seriously? Have you seen what these corporate stuffed suits have done to such a great festival, who's slogan WAS "It's all about the party"? RIDICULOUS!! Tesla, (ok, they're cool), Buckcherry (alright, if I was gonna see a modern band, they would be it), Cinderella (They Rock, but will also be at M3) and the headliners: Godsmack and ZZ Top. And then there are a bunch of bands I've never heard of. IT"S A 3 DAY FESTIVAL!!! The essence that was Rocklahoma is gone! BUT, there is hope for you die hard 80s rockers. I have a little inside info on another festival in the works...Oklahoma City, July, and they are going after the bands that Rocklahoma wishes they could get!! Can't tell you who yet, but let's just say I got pretty excited when I heard the potential lineup! So stay tuned for more details as we get them!!
We are still headed to M3, just got our sponsor package info this week and in the process of finalizing that. So it's shaping up to be a rockin' summer once again at Retro Active. Don't forget, we're turning 5 this year too. And you know what that means? ........ CAKE!!!! :) Plus a whole lot more fun stuff! That's it for now, I've teased you long enough!

Well, it's Monday again. Today we are on pins & needles waiting for the big Rocklahoma announcement! It is only three months away. You may be thinking, whats the big deal, three months is plenty of time and for a club show, you would be right! But for Rocklahoma, we start planning on the last day of the show for the next year. Usually by now, we know at least half of the bands on the line up. Unfortunately, ROK as decided to change the format and feature "modern" bands too, completely changing what ROK is supposed to be about. Instead of listening to the fans or taking Eddie Trunk up on his offer to help book the bands the fans want to see, they decided to bring in a company that doesn't know anything about the 80s! The took away front row seating (which is really gonna piss of the folks that reserved their seats from last year) and added a pit....at what 80s show do you need a pit??? This year is going to be an entirely different kind of show. Maybe they will come thru with some big names, maybe Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest, or Scorpions...maybe! Or, and more likely it will be a bunch of bands no self respecting glam band fan would ever listen to....and I am afraid that is more likely to be the case. I sure up I am pleasantly surprised in 14 minutes!
On a happier note, at Saturdays Kidz Time event, Amy H got out there and taught some eager kids how to do a little THRILLER dancing. Lots of fun was had by all!

So, did everyone enjoy Valentine's Day? Just another day of the week to me. But hope it was a good one anyway!! Well, the move is done!! Finally!! A special thank you to Bob, Stacy, Sean, Kyle and a VERY SPECIAL thank you to Shelly for all your help!! You guys are the best :)
Some friends and I were at a bar that didn't have Miller Lite on draft, I know, right? So then they ran out of Bud Light, so we are down to Pabst Blue Ribbon. So, we invented a new drink...PGR, Pabst Green Ribbon, just add about 3 limes per glass!! Here's a tip tho, skip the shots in between!
So football is over, but pitchers and catchers report in less than a month!!!

Happy February Everyone!!
Well, I got to see snow and didn't even have to go all the way back to New Hampshire! Eight inches fell in VA Beach between Fri night and Saturday. Luckily I got to see my family Friday night before it started, but didn't get to go out to try and see some of my friends :( Hopefully next time! But, I did take absolute pleasure in spending the entire weekend on my sister's couch in my PJs and robe watching her brand new 55" Vizio TV!!! Wow! It was worth getting up at 3:30 am Sunday morning to see the sweat beads rolling off Roger Federer's forehead!! Had fun at my pit stop in Raleigh on the way up with my buddy Todd, thanks again for the wine, had a blast!
So, moving on Wednesday, can't wait until it's done!!! And then, the big game Sunday night!! Interestingly enough, from the responses that we have received for our Super Bowl party evite that included a survey, the majority are picking the Saints!! I say GO COLTS!!!

WOW...it is almost Febuary. January sure went by quickly. I am just about completely recovered from my surgery, still get a little sore every now and than, nothing I can't live with. Now it's time to get the packing into high gear and get into my new house. The Super Bowl has been set and I have to say, Retro Active is TEAM COLTS, all the way! We are looking forward to another great Super Bowl party. Inventory is finally done, in the most part thanks to Amy H. Some how I managed to need surgery during inventory:)
I am still hoping to run my first half marathon on Feb. 13th, but it may be a little slow. I haven't been able to run for almost a month, so we shall see what kind of shape I am in!

Hope everyone is enjoying the MLK Jr holiday. We have finally thawed out and have nice weather! Amy Red is recovering nicely, and I predicted the AFC Championship game and we are gearing up for the Super Bowl!!! GO COLTS! Inventory is just about done, YAY!!!!! Still packing, anxious to complete the move!

Well, it's Monday again. I need a little help today. If you get a moment, could you say a little prayer for Amy Red? She had a minor procedure done today, and I know she would appreciate it if you kept her in your thoughts and prayers! On a lighter note, my Patriots could use a few prayers themselves! I think they forgot what time the game was, cause they never showed up!!! I guess now I have root for the Colts. (There you go Fluff!!!)
It felt good to be back in the gym today after a month layoff! I believe my foot has healed and I am ready to get back to business! I'm sure I won't be so chipper about it by tomorrow once all the lactic acid sets into my muscles and I am unable to move!
Still counting inventory...YAY!!!.....NOT!!! Can't wait til it's done! Don't forget Willie Nelson will be at the House of Blues Jan. 22, and just announced last week...George Thorogood and the Destroyers March 19!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hope everyone is off to a safe and happy new year...decade! Wow, can't believe how fast time seems to be flying. Everything is a blur right now as we are preparing to move. I hate moving!! I have decided that this will be my year of letting go...mostly of a lot of crap that I have been moving from one place to another for the past 5 years! There will, however, be one last Super Bowl Party before the move is complete.
Speaking of football...I am still in a state of complete and total devastation. My favorite football player, Wes Welker, is done for the season! Torn ACL & MCL! So now it's time for rookie Julian Edelman, aka "Welker Light", to prove his stuff!
We are already tired of the cold and ready for Spring! I thought I left this weather in New England! Suppose it could be worse...we could have 2 feet of snow!
Well, it's inventory time at Retro Active. We will also be assessing what types of products we will be holding onto and which ones we will be phasing out. So if you saw something at the store or online that you have your heart set on, don't wait too long to snag it, because it may not be available for long!!

Wow, it's hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone. I hope everyone was happy with whatever it was that Santa dropped off! Amy & I tried out the new version of the Game of Life, Rockstar version. I highly recomend it. Lots of interesting twists and turns on the way to stardom. We also managed to check out the new Sherlock Holmes movie....Excellent! As 2009 draws to a close, we see lots of exciting things on the Retro Active horizon. The biggest being that we will be 5 yrs old this May. Stay tuned for details on our 5th anniversary celebration!

Well, the holidays are upon us. Getting so caught up in the hustle and bustle of this time of year, sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the things that are truly important...being with loved ones, making memories, helping those around you that may be less fortunate, and being grateful for what you have. I have to say that Amy and I are very grateful that our doors are still open and that we can keep going with this thing that we started! We are looking forward to 2010 with continued optimism and excitement as a new decade opens up all kinds of new possibilities in the world of Retro!

Well, I almost got this in on time! I am only one day late...not to bad. I think Amy & I are finally recovered from out fun filled trip to Raleigh. Now it is time to think about Christmas...shopping to be exact. Most of my shopping is done and now I can just enjoy the season with friends and family. Isn't that what it is really all about anyway? Nothing to exciting going on on the concert front. Rocklahoma has announced that they have partnered with AEG for booking this years event. They have also said that they will be booking a broader variety of bands, including some more current acts. We find this to be more than a bit distressing, as Rocklahoma was the only festival of it's kind, focusing on bands from the 80's. Instead of just booking bigger acts from the 80's, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc.they have opted to bring in newer bands. Basically, making it like any other festival out there. Very disappointing from our point of view. I guess we will just have to wait & see what happens.

Wow!! What a fun weekend!! It just goes to show how important it is to network! Amy and I had the pleasure of meeting a group of guys at Rocklahoma 2008, saw them again at Rocklahoma 2009, and have become great friends! We spent the weekend in Raleigh with one of the guys, Todd, who also happens to be the President of the New England Patriots Fan Club of North Carolina. So, other than the Patriots blowing the game against the Dolphins, it was a fun-filled, outstanding weekend! We got to party with Paul "Fitzy" Fitzgerald, who kept us laughing all weekend. Met some more great people and made some great memories! Speaking of football...we've just posted some great new NFL throwback designs on the web site so check it out. And don't forget, if you come into the store now through January 1, 2010, every purchase is 15% off!!!
We are still working on the newsletter, and still hope to have something put together by the 1st. If anything, it will be a plain text e-mail with some pictures as we recap 2009 and look into the future of the new decade! Well, someone has decided to spam our blog comments. So we were forced to put some regulatory measures in place to stop the spammers!! Sorry for any inconvenience, but some posers just have to make life a little more difficult for everyone else! Speaking of difficult, Amy Red and I just got back from Vegas again. Not one of our best trips. I got strep throat and I think bronchitis, and Amy Red fractured her foot. All this by the second day in town. We did manage to get some work done and found tons of cool new stuff which you will see shortly on the website. We also did enjoy seeing our buddy Chad from L.A. and thoroughly enjoyed all the giggle-fests with Aimee Blond and Dee Dee, I mean E!! Hey ladies...POO HAIKU!!! Anyway, it wasn't a completely wasted trip, even if Amy made me pose for a picture with David Hasselhoff. Ok, we're a little behind on the blog, but we were on vacation last week. We are rested up and getting ready for the Holiday Season!! Before we know it Black Friday will be here. Don't forget, if you're local, stop by the store the day after Thanksgiving and sample some of Amy L's home baked goods, hot cider and hot chocolate. We'll have holiday music playing on the radio and holiday TV specials on TV!! Get a head start and beat the crowd, or shop online! Ok, I have finally come back to reality after the most amazing experience of my life!! Of course I was excited to see Queensryche, my favorite band, when they came to Myrtle Beach. I was excited about meeting new fan club members and reconnecting with old friends. But the real excitement didn't start until 1 hour before the doors opened and Amy L handed me a pair of meet & greet passes, AND jury selection passes!!! For the non-Queensryche-freaks, that means we got to be part of the show...on stage...WITH THE BAND!!!!!! For one whole song, we got to stand on stage as members of the jury in the second set of the show, Operation:Mindcrime II, for the song Hostage. If that wasn't thrilling enough, we got to meet the band after the show. And they were very gracious and talkative and took as many pictures as we wanted. Scott Rockenfield(drummer) remembered us from when we set up our Rockenwraps account as a dealer. Geoff Tate(lead singer) said he wanted to make sure he had time to come by and check out the store the next time he is in town. Now, from most rock stars, I would just brush that off as being polite. But these are guys who follow through with what they say! And you think that's the end of my excitement? Oh no, my friends, there is more yet!!! On the Thursday morning after their show here, I got to spend 30 minutes on the phone with Geoff Tate interviewing him for my friend's website!!! Well, Amy C & I have been back from Vegas since Saturday afternoon and we are just about settled back into work.
What an incredible time we had. Our post last week just touched upon a few of the things we found this trip. There is a new line called ROCKSTALGIA. This features bands/artists like Dokken, Keel, Y&T, Steelheart, Winger, Pat Travers, Stephen Pearcy,Sweet, Jackyl, Enuff Znuff and my favorite ZEBRA!!!We are hoping these will all be in with in the next month or so. So, stay tuned!!. We really had a "RockStar " week. The first night we were there we went to see THE FIXX @the Hard Rock. We got some great pictures. They remembered us from the Myrtle Beach show & hopefully will be back.
Monday was the start of the tradeshow, imagine our surprise when we got to one of the booths to find KIP WINGER (still lookin' FINE!!). We were able to meet and talk to Don Dokken, Ron Keel and again my favorite Randy Jackson (from ZEBRA). We were able to catch with our old friend Stephen Pearcy and our new friend Chip Znuff.
Tuesday night we partied at The Joint at The Hard Rock with Randy, Ron, Stephen, Metal Mike, Chip, Don and Jon Levin(from Dokken)along with our buddies Aimee, DeeDee, Matthew, George, Rick ,Stewart & Heather. For some reason we even took a limo back to the hotel.

WOW!!! First day done at the Magic Show and boy have we found some cool stuff!!! Just a little preview... How about Winger, Keel, and Zebra T-shirts for starters? Love Jolt Cola? Well now you'll be able to show that love with a Jolt Cola T-shirt!! And we found some incerdible belt buckles...Star Wars, Mullets Rule and much more!! There's still a lot to see today, since we spent so much time hanging out with Kip Winger and Ron Keel at one of the booths yesterday!!! Well, what a night!! After a few bumps in the road, our karaoke contest got underway and was a smashing success!! Congratulations to Sully, our Grand Prize winner!!! We had some very talented and enthusiastic contestants, and the crowd at Broadway Louie's loved it!! Thank you to all who participated. Thank you also to Broadway Louie's for having us, and especially to Broadway Jake who helped us scramble together and make it all work. And of course to the House of Blues, and our "celebrity" judges Patti Travasos and Tattoo Slover. We had a lot of fun, and I'll have pictures posted soon. It has taken Amy C. & I a couple days to "recover" from the weekend, so this post is a few days after the fact. On August 5, 2006 we hosted our third in store autograph signing with Faster Pussycat and Bang Tango. As some may know, Steven Adler was supposed to be there, unfortunately, he was" indisposed" for both the in store & the show that night. (If you want more info on that, just go to Metal Sludge). Tamie Downe & the boys from Faster Pussycat & Joe Leste and the boys from Bang Tango more the made up for the missing Steven. Everyone got autographs and pictures, we got lots and will put them on the website as soon as possible. A lot of shopping got done, guess the guys needed some new shirts for the road!!! Now comes my favorite part of the day. Amy & I were lucky enough to have dinner with Joe, Lance, Timmy and Jordan from Bang Tango & Chad & Danny from Faster Pussycat. David, Stephanie and Jaime from the store came along too. The drinks were flowing and great fun was had by all!!! On to the show- our buddy Jamie had the PA hooked up and we were ready to rock. The show started a little late, but it was worth the wait. BANG TANGO KICKS ASS. Joe Leste was awesome (and HOT!!!). He can rock the house. I was so impressed. And not just because he wore a RETRO ACTIVE T-shirt for the whole set. One final time, we LOVE Bang Tango. Can't wait to get the new CD. As not to disappoint, a Guns & Roses set was performed, as Radlers Appetite. TOO funny. Faster Pussycat was next. The fans were happy. I heard all my favorite Pussycat songs. The new stuff wasn't bad either. I still need to check out the new CD all the way thru. After the show, we continued to party with and like rock stars. On to the the strip club!!! Sunday morning came way too early. By mid afternoon, a few of the guys were on their way over for a little BBQ at our house. We had a very enjoyable afternoon with Chad, Danny, Sean and Chip Z'nuff from ENUFFS Z'NUFF. Chad and Sean are the karaoke kings!! Anyway. We had so much fun with everybody over the weekend. We made some great new friends. Come and check out Chad & Seans other project, STIMULATOR and Danny and Chad's side band MOTOCHRIST. We have CD's for both at the store. Amy & I actually saw STIMULATOR last summer open for DURAN DURAN up in VA, they were excellent. I am working on getting both Faster Pussycat and Bang Tango t shirts for the store and the website. Joe showed me the picture that will be on the t shirt, those shirts are gonna be cool. So, stay tuned!!! That's about it for our weekend with the "rock stars" .
